I don’t know whether to be joyful or sad and honestly feel both. On November 28th, 2017 we received an email from our team in Ethiopia advising us that the Ethiopian government had a prison amnesty event, related to Ethiopian New Year, where many inmates were released early. This was quite unexpected and resulted in all of our Sodo House kids being reunited with their, formerly incarcerated, families. Reunification was always our goal so this is good news. But emotionally I can’t help but feel a sense of loss that these sweethearts are out of our care. If you think of it, pray for them from time to time. We never had any illusions that we would take care of them forever. Our goal was to love and sow Jesus into them for the season of time that they were given to us, thereafter entrusting them to their heavenly Father. As Paul said,
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil 1:6)
Thanks to all of you who helped us step into their lives during a time of real vulnerability – and used that time to love and sow Jesus into them!
