Since 2005 Harmony Outreach has partnered with the Kaifeng Deaf School to improve the conditions of its facilities and the resources it has for the children they serve. We have also worked with like-hearted organizations to provide them with new techniques and teaching materials to provide hope to the children and their teachers.
Unlike the children at Harmony House, most of the children at the Kaifeng Deaf School have families, while a few are orphans or have now been adopted. The Kaifeng Deaf School focuses on training deaf children to speak. After several years in their program, if their families feels their child can speak clearly or has improved pronunciation, the child will 'graduate' and will be enrolled in a traditional kindergarten or primary school. In some cases, the children successfully proceed through traditional school from there. Sometimes, however, the families find that the child must re-enroll in the Kaifeng Deaf School or another deaf school near them because of difficulties in hearing, understanding or studying caused by their hearing issues.
On this page are some of our Kaifeng Deaf School 'Graduates'.
