Harmony House
The cornerstone of our work in China is a home about 45 minutes southeast of Beijing which we call Harmony House. Harmony House is a safe haven for orphaned and special needs children where we take the hopeless, hurting or vulnerable into our care and transform their lives into something new and beautiful.
A child born with special needs in China often faces a bleak future. These children are often abandoned by their parents and will face a life growing up in a state orphanage. China’s orphanages are getting better, but childhood is about so much more than “three hots and a cot.” Childhood is about the love, laughter and security that come from a family. James 1:27 says, “Pure religion in the sight of God is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unspotted by the world.”
For the children that God brings into our care, we try to step into the shoes of their missing parents and make their problems our problem. For us, “visit orphans...in their affliction” means taking the tough hand of cards they have been dealt and putting some aces in it. We do this through our Three Steps to Hope (foster care, surgery and adoption) program. Typically it takes about two years for a child to graduate from our program and be adopted into a loving family. And when they do, we take in another vulnerable child who takes his or her place. Our orphans have been adopted all over the world.
Harmony House is designed, as much as possible, to model a normal family environ-ment. The children are cared for in a free-standing home with a backyard and play equipment. They are cared for by nannies in a structured environment which includes naps, play times and school for the older children. As a small ministry it would be impossible for us to provide for these children apart from the help of people like you who are our partners in transforming their lives.
Choosing a child, becoming a Harmony sponsor and Prayer Parent is available for just over $1.00 per day ($40/mo) and is tax deductible.
