About Us

Who We Are

Harmony Outreach is a team effort of people from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe who have all come together to reach out with hands of love to orphans and vulnerable people in China,  Ethiopia and Cambodia.

Our Mission

Our mission is to come to the rescue of vulnerable, at-risk, and hurting people in China, Ethiopia and Cambodia.  The world’s resources are unequally distributed.  So much of the world’s wealth and resources are stored up in the great democracies of the West.  Jesus said,

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48)

The problem is that those of us blessed with so much are often isolated from our suffering brothers and sisters in other countries.  That is where Harmony comes in—connecting Christians and caring people from the West with opportunities to rescue our suffering neighbors in China,  Ethiopia and Cambodia.

Our Vision

We want to be the solution to those who are hurting and vulnerable.  Our vision goes beyond merely saving lives to fundamentally transforming lives. The people we help often have all the cards stacked against them.  Like the Good Samaritan Jesus encouraged us to be, we want to come alongside these people and be God’s instruments of love and mercy to them.  We want to take the terrible hand of cards that so many of them have been dealt and put some aces in them!  When Jesus began his public ministry, Scripture records that he went into the synagogue, opened the Bible and read the words of Isaiah 61:

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
       to comfort all who mourn,

and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
       instead of ashes,
       the oil of gladness
       instead of mourning,
       and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
       a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor
(Isaiah 31:1-3)

To those whose lives are ashes, we want to make their lives beautiful.  To those who are mourning, we want to give them a spirit of gladness.  And to those who live lives of despair, we want to transform them into lives of praise.

Our Core Values

Jesus said the greatest commandments were to love God and to love our neighbor.  When asked to define neighbor, Jesus did so by telling the story of a Samaritan who came to the rescue of a hurting and vulnerable Jew.  In Jesus’ day, Samaritans and Jews had different religious and cultural traditions, and the two groups did not like each other.  At the end of the parable, Jesus said “…go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37)  Many of those who make up the Harmony team are evangelical Christians—but some are not.  Some of the people we help are Christians, but many are not.  We make no pre-condition that someone be like us before we will help them.  Our core values are to live lives of love described in 1 John 4:

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love."  (John 4:7-18)
